What Information Do You Gather About Me?

We collect only from you the personal information you voluntarily provide in order to deliver the best possible service and to bring you information about products that we think may be of interest to you. For example, our Web site contains a Publications Center from which you can purchase SSA's products and services (e.g. publications, brochures, plaques, print/radio advertising services). If you decide to place an order via our Publications Center, we ask you to provide us with information necessary to process your order including, but not limited to, name, physical address, telephone number, facsimile number, Email address, company name, title, whether you are an SSA member, prior purchases from the online store, and a credit card or transaction card number, expiration date, CVV Number/V-Code and billing address.

We collect your Email address so we can send you information about your order and its status. We may also let you know via Email about other products and services. The credit card or transaction card information that is collected is used strictly for billing purposes.

We also collect messages sent through our Contact Us page so we can respond to your questions or concerns.

Finally, we collect information about visitors to the Web site, including IP address, ISPs, and browsers. However, this information is not linked to any personally identifiable information. We use this non-personal information to analyze Web site traffic, distribute the load across our servers and improve the operation of our Web site. SSA may collect information about your browsing behavior, such as the date you visit the Web site, the areas or pages of the Web site you visit, the amount of time viewing the Web site, the number of times you visit the Web site, and other click-stream information.

SSA may use the information collected from you for any of the following purposes: to facilitate your use of our Web site and better understand your needs; to process and fulfill your orders from the Publications Center; to respond to your inquiries or requests for information; to send you information, promotional materials, and offers from SSA, as well as from any affiliates or partners; to contact you when necessary; to help address problems with our Web site; to administer the site; to conduct internal reviews of the Web site; to protect the security and integrity of the Web site; and to provide you with a greater online experience at our Web site.

Electronic mail messages may be intercepted by third parties and are not protected by SSA. If you use a public computer or terminal, be sure no one is watching over your shoulder and always log out when you complete an online session. Please do not share or send sensitive account information via Email. We will never send an Email or call you asking you for your User ID, password, social security number, or FEIN.

If you receive a suspicious Email that appears to be from SSA, keep the Email in your inbox and report it to us at info@selfstorage.org or by calling SSA customer service at (888) 735-3784 or (703) 575-8000. Please do not forward the Email to SSA unless SSA requests it. For more information, contact the Federal Trade Commission at www.ftc.gov.

Does The Site Use Cookies?

Yes. In order to identify you and your shopping cart, we drop a cookie as you move through our online store. A cookie is a small file that is sent to your hard drive that helps diagnose problems with our server and administer our Web site. We will not attempt to gather your computer hardware or software information or your demographic information.

The user can always choose to disable cookies in the browser settings. However, that would prevent the identification of the user through each stage of the online buying process and the ability to view our Web site. The "help" segment of the toolbar on most browsers explains how to configure the browser to not accept new cookies, how to have the browser inform the user when he or she receives a cookie, and how to erase cookies from hard drives.

Non-member information will not be disclosed to third parties except to an affiliated state association for the sole purpose of providing information about membership and educational opportunities. Under no circumstances will we intentionally make your personal home address or telephone number available to third parties unless you indicated these as your contact information. We strongly recommend that you use your business address for contact purposes. SSA may provide aggregate statistical information about our members and customers, but these statistics will not include personal identifying information.
